The online dating industry must “reinvent itself” to maintain its appeal, said the head of French matchmaker Happn, which is targeting markets in Asia after being snapped up by a Chinese social networking company.
Happn on Friday said it had agreed a takeover deal with Beijing-based Hello Group, owner of the Momo and Tantan apps, for an undisclosed sum.
Karima Ben Abdelmalek, Happn chief executive, said the ownership change would help the company push into China, Japan and other Asian countries, while it also worked on new ways to help people meet and socialise beyond just dating.
