Despite having co-founded three of China’s top travel companies, including the country’s largest privately-owned hotel chain, where he is chairman, Qi Ji is quick to highlight his shortcomings.
“I have a bad temper, no patience, and I am anxious,” he says, speaking from a home in southern France where he spends much of the summer. “I am really not very good at daily management”.
That restlessness helped to fuel his serial success as an entrepreneur from the 1990s when he co-founded Ctrip, China’s largest online travel agency, which now has a market value above $19bn.
