Parliament backed a proposal by Theresa May to delay Brexit on Thursday, as the prime minister intensified efforts to have her withdrawal agreement approved by MPs at the third time of asking.
The House of Commons voted by 412 to 202 to push back the UK’s departure from the EU from the scheduled date of March 29 to at least June 30.
The Commons had earlier narrowly rejected a proposal under which MPs would have seized control of the Brexit process by rapidly gaining the ability to vote on alternative plans to Mrs May’s withdrawal agreement.
