President Donald Trump and the First Lady have made an unexpected trip to see US troops in Iraq, his first visit to a combat zone since he took office almost two years ago.
“President Trump and the First Lady travelled to Iraq late on Christmas night to visit with our troops and Senior Military leadership to thank them for their service, their success, and their sacrifice and to wish them a Merry Christmas,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement on Twitter.
She posted a photo of Mr Trump and the first lady surrounded by roughly a dozen men and women in uniform.
