The president of Interpol, whose disappearance is being investigated by French authorities, has resigned, the international police agency announced on Sunday evening.
A statement from Interpol said that it received the resignation of Meng Hongwei on Sunday “with immediate effect”.
The announcement by Interpol came hours after Chinese authorities confirmed in a one-sentence statement, published on the official website of the Chinese Communist party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, that Mr Meng was suspected of having broken the law and was under investigation by the country’s national Supervisory Commission.
