US President Donald Trump urged Democrats and Republicans to unite behind tax reform efforts, as his administration looks to score a much-needed legislative victory amid stalled efforts to overhaul healthcare reform.
Mr Trump took to the stage in Indianapolis, Indiana, to tout the tax-overhaul framework revealed earlier in the day, which proposes cutting the corporate tax rate to 20 per cent, largely ending the taxation of non-US earnings and reducing the number of individual income-tax brackets, among other items.
He said on Wednesday, according to prepared remarks: “Tax reform has not historically been a partisan issue – and it does not have to be a partisan issue today…There is no reason that Democrats and Republicans in Congress should not come together to deliver this giant win for the American people and begin the Middle Class Miracle once again.”
