Japan will ask the Chinese government to pay damages for the cost of repairing the Japanese embassy in Beijing and consulates attacked in anti-Japan demonstrations that swept through China over the past week, writes Michiyo Nakamoto in Tokyo.
“We will request payment for the damage done,” Osamu Fujimura, chief cabinet minister, said yesterday.
The Japanese embassy in Beijing and consulates in some Chinese cities were the target of anti-Japan protests that were triggered by Japan’s decision to nationalise some of the remote Senkaku islands, claimed by China as well as Japan.
