Japan's Liberal Democratic party has ruled the country almost continuously since the second world war but next weekend it looks set to be crushed by an opposition that has made improving ties with China an important part of its pre-election platform.
Not that anyone seems to have noticed in China.
Internet news portals are running colourful pages of blandly factual articles from the state media on the potential victory of the Democratic Party of Japan, but there is precious little analysis on the substance of the race and what it will mean for Sino-Japanese relations.
