The committee investigating last year’s attack on the US Capitol will hold the last in a series of public hearings on Thursday night as it focuses on what former president Donald Trump did while his supporters stormed Congress.
The panel investigating the January 6 attack will lay out what Trump did during the 187 minutes in which the riot unfolded. Committee aides said on Wednesday they would show how senior officials stopped Trump joining his supporters at the Capitol and then pleaded in vain for him to urge rioters to go home.
One committee aide said: “We’re going to hear testimony from individuals who were in the West Wing who were aware of what the president was doing, what his aides were doing, what his family and his allies were doing.”
