President Donald Trump is adding a $100,000 fee to applications for H-1B visas, in a major overhaul of the visa system for highly skilled foreign workers.
Trump on Friday signed a proclamation intended to curb the number of applicants for the work permits, which are favoured by US tech companies.
“This will ensure that the people [companies] are bringing in are actually very highly skilled, and that they are not replaceable by American workers,” said White House staff secretary Will Scharf.
