Some of the biggest names at America’s most prominent law firms are pledging to throw their weight behind Kamala Harris’s campaign for US president, in the latest sign of how Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election has energised core parts of the party’s base and fundraising pool.

A large event loosely scheduled for the autumn is expected to raise as much as $10mn, one person familiar with the efforts said.
